Accord Biomaterials is a venture-backed spin-off from MC3. The core technology, licensed from the University of Michigan then further developed by MC3, revolves around nitric oxide releasing and nitric oxide generating materials and coatings for medical devices.
MC3 leveraged several years of artificial lung research and development by merging its artificial lung technology with a German startup, Novalung, GmbH. MC3 licensed its BioLung intellectual property to Novalung, and continues to provide R&D and regulatory support to the venture. Novalung actively markets devices aimed at treating lung failure, in Europe, Asia and Canada, and will enter the U.S. market in the coming year.
